The Knysna Education Trust (KET) works in overcrowded, under-resourced communities where access to qualified teachers and safe learning environments is limited. In these areas, parents and educators often lack the training needed to support early childhood development.
KET tackles these challenges by creating safe, high-quality learning spaces that benefit both children and parents—particularly women—by enabling them to enter the workforce. Their holistic approach strengthens leadership, builds teacher confidence, and prioritises child safety and development.
KET’s model ensures that children in the Knysna area are school-ready by age six, with a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy. The Trust also collaborates with preschool principals to improve overall preschool development and promotes women’s economic empowerment by supporting self-owned small enterprises and sustainably managed ECD centres.
