The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is Africa’s largest mental health advocacy group, dedicated to supporting individuals and communities affected by mental health challenges. Our mission is to provide accessible mental health education, awareness, and support, with a particular focus on reducing stigma, improving access to care, and empowering those in need. Since its inception in 1994, SADAG has worked tirelessly to address pressing mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, teen suicide, and substance abuse.
We operate 30+ national helplines, offering free telephonic counselling, crisis intervention, and referrals to mental health professionals. Our outreach includes targeted initiatives like school talks, workplace wellness programmes, and community workshops, addressing mental health across all age groups and demographics.
SADAG also provides resources for those navigating mental health challenges, including support groups, online resources, and training for educators, parents, and healthcare professionals. Our efforts extend to raising public awareness through campaigns, webinars, and media outreach, ensuring mental health remains a priority in South Africa.
Ultimately, SADAG strives to create a society where mental health is treated with the same urgency and compassion as physical health, ensuring everyone has the support they need to live a fulfilling life.
